AEP (Amphibious Exploration Programme)

This is a very interesting Expedition that i attended organised by WVPR. As the name suggests, it consists of a kayaking expedition by boat to Pulau Ubin, and a cycle around the whole island. Boat and Bike, so the name "Amphibious". It's the first time WVPR is organising such an activity. And i must say it was really fun and was a success.

This time, the expedition is only opened to 15 vacancies as it was the 1st time of its kind. So we were kind of their "guinea pigs"...fortunate guinea pigs i must say... because we are the 1st to experience such a wonderful expedition of such nature!

This time, our expedition route are as follows:

WVPR>Coney Island>Cross the channel>Pulau Ketam>Pulau Ubin Jetty>cycle>cross channel>WVPR

Kayaking distance clocked: 11km

A picture paints a thousand words..so here goes...

Our Expedition mates!

Choosing our bikes for round ubin tour

Below are photos taken on Pulau Ubin itself.

Old Opera House

Old Portugese House: This colonial looking house is actually a holiday getaway villa for the rich westerners in the past. After it has been abandoned, there used to be many creepy stories about this house. But now, the place has been bought over by HSBC, as part of their environmental conservation efforts, renovated the place and is now a marine museum. A very cozy and antique place that gives u a feeling of the past.

This is probably one of the only fireplace with a chimney that is still working in Singapore!

At the back of the house is a board walk constructed by NParks that stretches out into Chek Jawa. At the end of the board walk u can actually see Frog ISland within visual distance.

More Portugese House Photos:

Many inhabitants and households on teh island thrive by earning revenues through providing services and sales of goods to visiting people. below is a very interesting advertisement! Really Eye-catching! So u wanna buy??! haha.

Pulau Ubin got its name from its natural mineral deposits of granite. So there are lots of used quarries that can be found in Pulau Ubin. Below are 2 very nice quarries that are filled with rain water.

More photos of kelongs off Pulau Ubin. The second photo with the bum boat is Pulau Ubin jetty. Where u can take a bum boat from changi terminal to Pulau Ubin in one of those boats.

This expedition is 1st of its kind! If there is another such expedition. I'm definitely for it!!
