Kallang Basin Kayaking Expedition to Merlion Park

This is an expedition that i went to a long time ago in the Kallang Basin. But it is because of kayaking expeditions like this that made me fell in love with kayaking. Kayaking allows one to see and experience breath-taking views from a different perspective. I believe that many Singaporeans would never believe that the photos that i show below is taken in Singapore. One just need to take some time...look up in the sky and enjoy the moment...and be captivated by the things around you.

The whole journey from Water Venture Kallang to Merlion park is not really a long one. To and fro, it's only about 8km. The route is pretty straight forward. Just head towards Nicoll Highway, and once the Highway is passed, turn right and you will see the Esplanade and Merlion Park.

Below: Look at this photo. Doesn't look like Singapore right? But it is! It's Nicoll Highway.

Below: This is the old Kallang Stadium where the annual National Day Parade would be held. But it's going to be demolished soon. So do visit there while it's still around.

Below: Look at how huge the Singapore Flyer is!

Below: That's Merlion Park with The Fullerton Hotel in the background. When we kayaked there, we actually rowed our boats into the Merlion. Which also means that the Merlion was spraying water onto us! It was fun! But be careful not to capsize, as there is a rock under the water to make the splash look pretty but it will hurt if u capsize and knock your head against the rock!

Below: Singapore Cityscape! That's the CBD (Central Business District of Singapore) in the background. Relaxed kayaker looking at stressful people working in the beautiful sky scrapers!

Below: It's the Singapore Durian below. The Esplanade! See the single tall tower behind the Esplanade? On the highest storey of that Tower is where the rotating restaurant in Singapore is. The Tower was previously named Westin Stamford but is now called Swissotel the Stamford.

Due to the recent construction works of the Integrated Resorts along the Kallang Basin, it is sad to say that the water quality in the Kallang Basin has deteriorated. But do ride on this expedition if you have the time as a Helix structure bridge is currently being constructed across the river and access to the Singapore river from the Kallang Basin might be restricted in future. Hope you enjoy the photos!
